UK Woodland Ltd is a Suffolk based business, situated on the outskirts of Ipswich, supplying home grown sweet chestnut coppice for both the local hard wood timber trade and directly supplied firewood. Our woodland is owned and sustainably managed by the company directors, Peter Bradbeer and John Whyman.
The woodland that we own and manage is predominantly sweet chestnut (Castanea Sativa) trees. The wood has been here for more than a hundred years and some of the trees are now approaching 80ft tall.
The most important measure of good firewood is its moisture content. Wood which has a low moisture content will be easier to light and will burn efficiently. Our firewood is taken from trees which have fallen several years ago - the great storm of 1987 in some cases! These trees are so well seasoned that, once cut and dried for a few weeks, the firewood they yield has a moisture content of between 15 and 20%.
You can see our wood on display at Hollow Trees Farm Shop. We're also planning to be at the Weird & Wonderful Wood again this year where you'll be able to come along and say hello as well as try out our 'anyone can do it' wood splitter. Check our Visit Us page where we'll add details of other events as they're arranged.
